Registration for the 2012-2013 curling season is now open.
There will be significant changes this season, so please read on.
Due to an explosion in youth hockey, Robert Morris University has reduced the available ice time for curling for the upcoming 2012-2013 season. Because of this reduction we will be operating two draws per night: the Can-Am league and an additional late night Vampire league.
The Can-Am league will be split into two groups (A and B) and will play on alternating Saturdays at 9 pm, The Vampire League will play at 11:45 pm weekly with cleanup around 1:30 am. Using this structure, we can still have 40 curlers in each Can-Am League and 40 curlers in the Vampire League. As with years past, there are a couple of weeks where we don’t have ice, and a couple of weeks where our start time is pushed back slightly.
We know you’re all asking – what are we doing about this?
We immediately met with RMUISC Director Dave Hanson and the bottom line is: There is no opportunity to get more ice time from RMU on any weeknight or weekend. Hockey is squeezing us. We have contacted all other arenas in the area and no viable ice time is available elsewhere.
We have accelerated our building plan to get to dedicated ice as soon as possible. Our original plan has been changed to get us into a 2-sheet facility possibly as early as the 2013-2014 season. We are working with a building designer to come up with a design that will allow expansion to 4-sheets as we grow. The search for land is on, and providing our membership numbers hold up, we can be on dedicated ice in time for the Olympics. We have added a section to the website with updates here so you can be a part of this process.
While the current situation is far from ideal, we hope you’ll seriously consider sticking with us.
Due to the restricted ice time, the wristband fee will be included in the membership fee. Please note: The overall cost for adults per curling match is less than last season. AND here’s a big (good!) change – there will be NO ADDITIONAL WRISTBAND FEE as a Can-Am or Vampire League member if you spare in another match!

Returning members from last season: Membership fees for the Can-Am League received with a postmark date on or before September 4, 2012 will have priority on the 80 spots in the Can-Am League. New members: Registrations are accepted in order of postmark date so send in as soon as possible. There are limited spots available.
