Grippers and Sliders
Grippers and sliders are available from the Pro Shop.
Grippers are made from a special rubber that stays soft and pliable (grippy) when it gets cold. Curlers who wear running shoes to curl in sometimes find that the soles of the running shoes get slippery when they get cold so they get grippers to go over both shoes. Grippers tend to wear out fairly quickly since they’re made of soft rubber. The rubber eventually starts to flake off and little bits of rubber on the ice can affect the travel of rocks.
Grippers come in narrow and wide widths in each size.
Sliders are made to go over ordinary shoes or running shoes. They have an elastic band that holds the slider to the shoe, but many curlers don’t bother with the elastic band, they just step on the slider when they are delivering a rock. By just stepping on the slider they aren’t tempted to walk around on the ice with a slider attached to their shoe risking a nasty fall.
