A few notes regarding points and Divisions:
Points
From play within each division, teams are awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for a loss and 0 for a forfeit loss. Winning a game by forfeit counts as a win (3 points). Tie matches will go to skips rocks to determine a winner (ie no ties).
Divisions
At the end of each five-week rotation, points are tabulated for each division. The top two teams in a division will move up and the bottom two will move down one division. All points are then reset to zero to begin the next rotation. The rankings will rotate a third time to set up the playoff brackets. All teams will make the playoffs.
Skips Rocks
In the event of a tie game, each team throws one rock, with full sweeping by the throwing team only. note: anyone from the throwing team may be elected to throw the rock. There will be no sweeping behind the tee line by the opposing team. The team without the hammer delivers their rock first. A Rock must make it past the hogline and remain in play to be considered a counting stone. The distance of the rock to the button shall be measured and locked in on the measurer or by other means if not within the house. note: in our club, the measuring is often performed by an unbiased 3rd party. The rock is then removed from play. The opposing team throws; their rock must be closer to the button than the first team to win the point and the match.
Tie Breakers for Division Play
If two or more teams in the division end with the same point total in a rotation AND that tie affects which teams move up or down a division, the following method(s) will be used to break the tie.
- The first tiebreaker will be team results in head to head competition.
- The second tiebreaker will be results vs. the top team in that division, followed by the second place team, and followed by the third place team.
- The third tie breaker would be measured distance on skips rocks. To ensure that the division rankings can be determined, all teams will throw skips rocks following their match on the last week of the rotation. We will use a tape measure from button to rock and record the distance.
Once a three or four way tie is broken, the remaining tie breakers start over using method 1 above.
